Mallorca Adventure Guide: Weather
The very predictable good weather is one of the main reasons people choose to visit Mallorca in the first place. Climbing is possible almost all year round - except in the very hot summer months.
Even if the weather is good for climbing, three factors need to be taken into account:
- Even at moderate temperatures (15-20 degrees Celsius) sun facing walls can become very hot.
- The wind on the island is a constant companion and gets very strong at times. Even with calm condition at the coast there might be strong winds in the Tramuntana mountains and in the deeper canyons that host climbs especially (Sa Gubia for example is known to be a wind tunnel and the authors of this book have been battered by cold wind high off the deck there more than once).
- Check the conditions higher up if you are climbing one of the lines in the Tramuntana mountains. The difference in height between where you are staying and your climb might easily be 1.200 meters. You can get good forecasts and information on conditions on several of the main peaks on mountain-forecast.com.
For a winter getaway one of the best times is the two week period right after Christmas (often called the little summer) that almost always has steady warm temperatures, very little rain and only light winds.
