Äppelknyckar Day 9: Wasp infestation
Köping to almost Uppsala
The next morning while having breakfast on the lake shore it dawned on us that this trip might actually come to an end soon. This would be the last day of real riding towards Uppsala and in two days we would be back in the plane on our way home.
One aspect of these kind of trips is that you start to get into a groove after a few days and as you get towards the end it feels like you should go on for at least a few weeks. This might be one the reason why we started to discuss the possibility of an “epic” trip in the future that would allow us to push this format to the point at which we would be “done” with it.
Riding was great again and the day was well structured by the towns we were going through. As we came into more populated parts of the country again the number of random sights also increased. The final stretch towards Uppsala followed an old rail track that had been converted into a cycling / horse riding track.
We decided not to ride into Uppsala but planned to stay outside of town in the forests. Torben did find a shelter on the map and we made our way there: The perfect spot located right on the edge of a meadow - fitting for our last night outside. If it had not been for the massive wasp nest under the shelter. After a bit of deliberation we pitched our tarp 10 meters away for the shelter and shared the space peacefully with the wasps.
