Äppelknyckar Day 10: There be vikings and blast beats

Into Uppsala

The day started off weird. While preparing to leave for Uppsala a guy with a giant backpack came right out of the woods. It turned out he was training for a expedition into the mountains on the border between Sweden and Norway and was carrying 35l of Water in bottles in the morning heat. Were had a short conversation with him and he pointed us towards the best trail out of the wood and towards town.

As we did not have much riding to do that day we decided to visit old, in Swedish Gamla, Uppsala and the Viking related sites there before checking into our hotel downtown. The graves of Viking kings and the trails around them where both interesting to see and would make a great CX race course...

After checking into our hotel we took the afternoon to take a look at new Uppsala and search for a place to have dinner. After having found a Thai place and having eaten we thought that we could end our final evening in Sweden this early - so we searched the internet for anything that might be going on that night in town. We found one thing: That there might be a punk concert in a culture centre somewhere in a industrial part of town.

That sounded interesting enough and we made our way there. The culture centre turned out to be a warehouse turned DIY concert space with about 20 folks hanging out. At first they were quite irritated by us just showing up but after ensuring them that we were not cops we were welcomed warmly. The band playing that night was a crust punk / grindcore formation from Umeå. This was a rather unexpected but perfectly fitting ending of the day.
