Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: Cales Coves (Menorca) Tl:Dr: Picturesque seaside climbing on the neighbouring island of Menorca. Set among one of the many archaeological sites there. Worth a visit like the whole island of Menorca.
Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: Sa Mola de Felanitx Tl:Dr: A unique crag with a good selection of nice routes and a short approach. Close to the east coast but different in feel and style than the seaside areas.
Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: Sa Gubia (Bunyola) Tl:Dr: The best place on the island for sport multi-pitch climbing plus tons of single pitch routes in every grade in a stunning mountain gorge.
Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: Puig de Sant Marti (Alcudia) Tl:Dr: A small crag with great rock and great views. The long routes are on weathered and sharp rock and mostly in the lower grades. Great for beginners or just a fun day out.
Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: Ermita de Betlem (Arta) Tl:Dr: Interesting area with several walls in the Llevant mountains near a beautiful hermitage. Partly undocumented and under development.
Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: Cala Magraner (East Coast) Tl:Dr: One of the most well known areas on the island with climbs starting directly on a beautiful beach. A wide selection of good routes but with very polished holds on the easier ones.
Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: La Victoria (Alcudia) Tl:Dr: A small crag with short easy-ish and somewhat unique routes. However the bolts are rusted and there is a very limited route selection. Still good for a visit.
Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: Cala Bota (East Coast) Tl:Dr: About 40 routes from easy to hard in a perfect seaside setting. The climbing style is varied: Slabs and jugfests can be found here. 40-ish minutes approach.
Hiking The Serra de Son Torrella traverse Its length, exposure and technical nature make this ridge one of the crown jewels of the Tramuntana mountains. And after having looked at it from many angles I set off for a great day of scrambling, rappelling and admiring the views.
Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: Cala Llombards (East Coast) Tl:Dr: Small crag with primarily hard overhanging routes with very short approach and a beach right next to it. Great for projecting.
Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: Cas Catala (Palma West) Tl:Dr: Plenty of easy routes in a unique almost urban setting close to the big city of Palma. However it gets busy quickly. Good for a quick two hour hit and run.
Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: Tijuana (Cala Santanyi) Tl:Dr: A great example of Mallorca east coast seaside climbing with a wide selection of routes and a super short approach.
Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: Calo de Betlem Tl:Dr: Hard mostly slab climbing on the foot of the “other” mountains of Mallorca right by the sea. However the mixed bag of good and bad bolts and the relatively small number of routes make this only an “okay” crag.
Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: La Creveta (Formentor) Tl:Dr: Long routes on perfect grippy rock in the stunning landscape of the cape Formentor. The wide selection of routes however is earned with a tricky approach.
Climbing Rock Climbing Mallorca: Sa Font (Pollenca) Tl:Dr: A 5 minute approach and great views make this small area perfect for a half day visit. The routes are short (10-15m) and range from medium (4c/5a) to hard (7a+) difficulty.
Cycling La Vuelta Media “Ride half the distance of the 2020 Vuelta a Espana at the same time as the pros on local roads - just for the sake of it.” - That was the simple premise of a totally unnecessary and equally fun project that had me riding for 45 hours and 1.500km in three weeks.
Climbing Through the slabs of the Serra de Cuber After having tested the waters with a smaller line on one end of the Serra we returned to climbing right from the lakeshore of the Cuber to the highest point of the Serra de Cuber in a direct line.
Climbing Easy trad multi pitch climbing on the shore of the Cuber On a previous trip we had noticed that the Sierra on the western bank of the water reservoir looked interesting to climb, not too high and not too hard. When visiting the area again we took a closer look and jumped onto a gearless line we spotted for a little adventure.
Hiking Traversing the Puig de ses Vinyes ridge From our overnight spot we could clearly see the summit of Puig de ses Vinyes and the connected ridge with the highest mountain on Mallorca Puig Major in the background. During my morning coffee I took the decision to give it a try, which turned out to be a great idea.
Climbing Climbing the Sa Brexta tower in Sa Calobra The road down to Sa Calobra on Mallorca is well known to be one of the most stunning in Europe and in part of this landscape is one rock tower that literally sticks out. This is the story of our attempt to climb this beautiful and scary brute.
Cycling Screw Covid! Ride bikes! Due to busy schedules and the travel restrictions fellow Grimer Torben and I had not seen each other in a very long time and had to put our plans for some future trips on hold. So I was more than happy to tag on a weekend of bike riding with him to my summer trip to the Austrian alps.
Climbing Plaisir climbing in the Zugspitze region After spending some time on new snow and ice skills I met up with Jochen, a buddy I got to know in the alps last year, for a few days of easy and fun climbing in stunning scenery in the Mieming Range directly south of the Zugspitze.
Climbing Learning to use them pointy things I am very much an autodidact but sometimes having a bit of instruction is a good thing. As glacier travel and moving through the mountains in snowy conditions was a hole in my skill set I decided to go to Austria to take a course on the topic and put the skills to use on one of the local mountains.
Hiking The Torrent de Pareis - A bucket list tour! Since moving to Mallorca a few years ago I always wanted to do the hike / scramble down the Torrent de Pareis but somehow never made it happen. With no tourists on the island right now I took the chance to see this famous canyon in solitude.
Climbing Traversing the Serra de Cavall Bernat With the Covid-19 restrictions being lifted more and more I got out to do a scrambling route that I have been scoping out many times. This striking 3km ridge turned out to be hard, fun and scary at times.
